The status is the highest technology readiness level or maturity that a technology system can achieve, and AUDS is the first fully integrated system, worldwide, to achieve TRL-9.
DoD and NASA definition of TRL-9 is that the system is in its final form and has been proven successful through mission operations.
The AUDS has achieved the status following successful evaluations by military and government organisations. Numerous rigorous tests and evaluations, which have been carried out over the last 18 months, which has seen AUDS consistently exceed expectations, providing ground and air surveillance against possible threats.
Developed by Blighter Surveillance Systems, Chess Dynamics and Enterprise Control Systems, the AUDS system can detect a drone six miles away using electronic scanning radar. The AUDS then tracks the threats using precision infrared and daylight cameras together with advanced video tracking software. Finally AUDS then disrupts flight using a non-kinetic inhibitor to block radio signals.
The AUDS is very quick and effective at detecting and removing threats, with the process taking only eight-15 seconds, working in all weathers, day or night.
Speaking for the AUDS team, Mark Radford said: “Achieving TRL-9 status is an important milestone for AUDS in the embryonic counter-drone market. The sale and deployment of multiple AUDS systems to the US military to protect critical assets and personnel makes AUDS, we believe, the only TRL-9 rated fully integrated strategic counter-UAS system on the market.”
AUDS is also currently being evaluated by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for use at major US airports as part of its Pathfinder Programme. It is anticipated for use by government agencies, police and military to protect high value infrastructure and important events.
