Raytheon has been awarded the contract to upgrade the missile defence systems of an undisclosed member of the Patriot nations.

13 nations own and operate the combat-proven Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System and this contract will upgrade the nation’s system to the most current and advanced configuration available, Configuration 3+.

Configuration 3+ with the Post Deployment Build 8 software and hardware suite, enables Patriot to use the PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile as well as enhancing its to destroy tactical ballistic missiles.

“Patriot saves lives,” said Ralph Acaba, Raytheon vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense. “Our customer faces a very real, evolving threat; by upgrading Patriot, they will continue to protect their civilians, military and critical infrastructure.”

The contract was awarded at the end of December, just three months after an official request to the US from Poland for the Patriot system. And the requirement for the system has been continually highlighted within that time, with an undisclosed customer awarding Raytheon $225M for additional Patriot capability, while the Netherlands will also modernise its Patriot systems.

Over $7.8Bn has been invested by the 13 Patriot partners in the system and its upgrading since December 2014.
