Kongsberg Defence Systems has entered into agreement with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA Naval Systems) to upgrade part of the main weapon system of Norway’s ULA Class submarines. The contract value is 220MNOK and work will be delivered over four years.

Norway-headquartered Kongsberg, which has 7,400 employees located in more than 25 countries, has supplied the combat system to the ULA Class and has conducted several upgrade programmes in recent years, which will now also include electronics and functionality for handling the submarines’ torpedoes.

This upgrade programme will contribute to keeping the class operational until new-generation submarines are introduced.

Kongsberg Defence Systems’ portfolio comprises products and systems for command and control, weapons guidance and surveillance, communications solutions and missiles. The division also makes advanced composites and engineering products for the aircraft and helicopter market.

Eirik Lie, President (acting), Kongsberg Defence Systems, said: “Kongsberg is pleased to be part of the update programme ensuring ULA Class operational capability until the new-generation submarines arrive.”
