Official DPRTE  Partners, Raytheon and the UK’s Department for International Trade, have collaborated to welcome more than two dozen British businesses to a UK Space Supplier Conference in Los Angeles, California.

The conference created opportunities for small and medium-sized British businesses to enter the fast-moving and dynamic space sector.

“In 2016 and 2017, this sector contributed £14.8 billion to the UK economy, while exports reached £5.5 billion,” said Mike Short, Chief Scientific Advisor at the UK Department for International Trade. “This conference represents an excellent opportunity for British businesses to gain experience of global supply chains. As we work with more partners overseas, I hope to see the sector continue to grow.”

The conference featured speakers from across Raytheon functions, including program leadership, business development, engineering and supply chain. Raytheon shared space technologies and business opportunities, as well as detailed requirements about how to become a supplier to Raytheon.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are integral to the success of the UK’s space industry,” said Matt Magaña, Senior Director for Raytheon Space Systems. “Our collaboration with the Department for International Trade boosts the country’s rapidly expanding space industry even further.”

Raytheon is committed to deepening its investments in the UK’s Space technologies and skills over the long term. This and future trade missions will support UK’s ambitious growth plans for the sector.

Raytheon will take their place at DPRTE 2020 alongside other Prime Contractor Partners such as Airbus, QinetiQ, Lockheed Martin, GE Aviation, Babcock, Commerce Decision and Serco.

In 2017/18 the Ministry of Defence managed approximately £20.9 billion of third-party procurement spend. The size and complexity of many projects requires the Department to work closely with key industry partners to ensure delivery of the defence programme, with over half of the annual spend flowing through 19 Strategic Suppliers.

The Prime Contractor and Supply Chain Engagement Zone will bring together many of the key Prime Contractors currently engaged within the delivery of MOD projects, allowing visitors to book appointments for 1-2-1 meetings.  Please note appointments are booked on a first come first served basis, and are limited to one appointment per delegate.

The Department for International Trade, also official DPRTE event partners, will feature at the event’s Export and Business Growth Pavilion. Here attendees will be able to meet with representatives from some of the largest overseas defence markets, with a view to exporting products or services.

The event takes place on 3 September at Farnborough International Exhibition Centre
