To mark the start of Armed Force Week, the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London raised the Armed Forces flag with a short ceremony outside City Hall early on Monday morning.
This year, Jennette Arnold OBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly, Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, and Major General Ben Bathurst General Officer Commanding HQ London District, on behalf of all three armed services, signed a renewed Armed Forces Covenant, which contains renewed ‘measures’ that reflect current Mayoral priorities and workstreams, and the lobbying asks of the Armed Forces community.
“Our Armed Forces work tirelessly to keep us safe which is why I’m so proud to welcome their representatives to City Hall today to acknowledge their bravery and dedication” said Jennette Arnold.
Armed Forces Day encourages people to reflect on the immense contribution made by men and women across the forces in service to our country. The Armed Forces are a tight-knit community so, as well as honouring current service personnel, today we remembered the families, charities, reservists and cadets who support our military throughout their careers and beyond.
Further flag raising ceremonies took place across London today including at the GuildHall where the Lord Mayor of London and the City of London Corporation honoured all three services with a special reception.
