A new terrorism information hub has been launched to create collaboration between the public and private sector.

The terrorism information platform represents a joint venture between the Home Office, terrorism reinsurer Pool Re, Counter Terrorism Policing, and the Joint Security and Resilience Centre. The project will allow expert advice to be shared securely helping organisations create their own tailored policies to deal with terrorism.

The project is expected to cost around £10 million and was announced by Security Minister Ben Wallace. The platform will also provide accurate and accessible information quickly in the event of an attack.

The national policing lead for Protective Security, Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi said: “Since the tragic events of 2017, counter-terrorism policing has been working alongside government and the private sector to strengthen our defences against terrorism through greater collaboration and information sharing.”

“That is why this ground-breaking new platform is so important, as it will allow businesses to access credible information 24/7, connect users to experts, provide accredited online training and send direct messages in the event of an attack – strengthening our frontline against the unprecedented threat.”

“By supporting this initiative, Pool Re will improve the engagement, collaboration and sharing of information between the private sector, policing and the security services – resulting in a better assessment of emerging threats and helping us to work together to keep the UK safer.”

The project is a part of the government’s anti-terrorism strategy CONTEST which aims to create a better response to terrorism within the private sector as well as the government. The new platform will focus on SMEs and, after consultation with partners, work on the platform will begin later in the year.
