According to Rockwell Collins, JSAS is a next generation Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation solution which combines advanced networking capabilities and security credentials with ‘Live, Virtual and Constructive’ simulation. The newly announced collaboration will also support the MOD Future Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation System (FACMIS) requirement.
This partnership will allow system to interoperate with the P5 waveform, making communications between JSAS, the F-35 and any P5 training pods possible. Going forward, JSAS will lay the foundation for future connectivity as part of the MOD Defence Operational Training Capability (Air) programme, and help to strike the perfect balance of live and synthetic training that the Ministry strives for.
“This collaboration brings a host of key capabilities to the MOD, including the multi-enclave security and interoperability needed for fifth-generation fighters,” said Sarah Minett, Managing Director for Rockwell Collins in the UK. “Working with DRS, this proven solution will meet the current and future needs of these programs.”
Rockwell Collins and DRS recently completed the Preliminary Design Review for their contracted delivery of the Tactical Combat Training System Increment II programme on behalf of the US Navy. That contract includes similar requirements to the Ministry’s ASDOT and FACMIS programmes.
