It’s an unfortunate fact of life. The cyber threat is now ever-present and it is evolving at breakneck pace. This is the age of the Internet of Things after all, with more devices online than there are people in the world.

That trend looks set to continue, but our reliance on connectivity brings with it greater risk. The cyber-attack is now a certainty, which makes the efforts of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) all the more important.

According to Ciaran Martin, Chief Executive Officer of the National Cyber Security Centre: “The reality of the threat we face – large, growing and diverse – means that some attacks will get through, and the first duty of the NCSC is to help manage and mitigate the impact of those attacks.”

Hence, Cyber Essentials – a National Cyber Security Centre led accreditation – introduced and backed by the UK government which enables organisations to showcase their credentials where cyber security is concerned.

Put simply, Cyber Essentials is the minimum standard all organisations must implement in order to bid for new MOD defence contracts that include the transfer of ‘MOD identifiable information’. MOD will require suppliers to have a Cyber Essentials certificate by the contract start date at the very latest, and for it to be renewed annually. This requirement must also be reciprocated further down the supply chain.

In recognition of its significance, DPRTE 2018 will feature the very first Cyber Essentials Engagement Zone which will provide delegates with an opportunity to better understand the many benefits of accreditation, in addition to offering advice and exclusive show offers in relation to the overall standard. All attendees are welcome.

Today, nation states, cyber criminals and hacktivists all present a significant threat to the United Kingdom, and as our dependency on technology increases so too does our reliance on such organisations as the NCSC and their Cyber Essentials initiative. Find out more today!
