Taking place at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on 27 March, Defence Procurement, Research, Technology & Exportability (DPRTE) 2018 is the UK’s premier defence procurement event and brings together buyers, suppliers and defence thought leaders in an engaging environment where they can network and discuss the latest market developments and opportunities.

Opportunities within the UK defence supply chain are expanding. The Ministry of Defence spends around £20 billion a year on a wide range of defence equipment and services, making it the UK industry’s single largest customer, and with the pledge to meet NATO’s target of spending 2% of national income on defence every year until 2020, the procurement and supply chain function within the defence sector has never been more important.

In addition, the National Security Strategy and Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 outlined that an investment of £178 billion will be made on new equipment and equipment support over the next ten years.

With such a wide range of opportunities available within the industry, the following short guide shows how you can capitalise on them at DPRTE 2018.

Leverage learning

Track the DPRTE website for the latest updates on keynote speakers and training zones, making a note of those you want to catch on the day.

Once you know what you want to see, make your own schedule allowing time for learning, product demos (if you are showcasing) and networking.

Manage meetings

While networking is often spontaneous it can help to arrange your DPRTE meetings with thought leaders and industry experts before the actual event. If you spot someone has confirmed their attendance on the DPRTE website – and you would like to chat to them on the day – send them a LinkedIn message or email their company requesting a meet-up.

Pre-arranging a time and meeting place can be a great way of cutting through the noise of the conference floor, ensuring you secure those key conversations.

Provide props

Got a great product, service or business solution you want to showcase at DPRTE 2018? Then book your ticket and bring evidence of this opportunity.

Networking can be enriched by sharing business cards and company literature, just as exhibition stands stimulate audiences with multimedia demos and product samples.

Bring the basics

Download your DPRTE 2018 floor plan and show guide, bringing them with you on the day. If you forget to do this then don’t panic, just pick them up on the day at registration. However, the one thing you must remember to do before you attend is book your place at DPRTE 2018!
