Serco has been awarded a £35M subcontract to continue providing satellite tracking and operations support to the US Space Force (USSF) at Oakhanger Telemetry and Command Station (TCS) in Hampshire. The contract, awarded via CACI and prime contractor Five Rivers Analytics, LLC, extends Serco’s involvement at the site for another five years until 2029.
With a 70-strong team at Oakhanger, Serco supports critical operations including maintenance, security, site support services, and programme management, reinforcing the UK’s role in global space defence infrastructure.
Doug Umbers, Managing Director, Serco Defence: “We are delighted to continue our work with CACI and Five Rivers Analytics on behalf of the US Space Force. This contract further strengthens our position in the UK space industry, complementing our expertise across the European and US defence space markets.”
The Satellite Control Network, operated by the US Space Force’s 23rd Space Operations Squadron (23SOPS), ensures uninterrupted telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) for a variety of US Department of Defense and non-DoD satellites. The squadron also provides pre-launch testing, launch support, early orbit control, and space object tracking, playing a crucial role in global space security.
This contract aligns with Serco’s expanding role in the space sector, following its recent facility management contract at Pituffik Space Base (Greenland) and ongoing partnerships with ESA and EUMETSAT. With over 60 years of experience and contributions to 50+ successful space missions, Serco continues to lead in ground segment infrastructure, spacecraft control, and space mission operations.
As defence space operations become increasingly vital, Serco’s expertise in mission-critical services places it at the forefront of the UK’s growing space and defence supply chain.
