Raytheon Intelligence & Space is partnering with commercial tech companies Red Hat and VMware to pursue Cyber TRIDENT, a critical training platform for the US Military’s Cyber Mission Force.

The contract, valued at up to $957 million, is expected to be awarded in early 2021.

The winner of Cyber TRIDENT will manage and evolve the Persistent Cyber Training Environment, or PCTE, through which the military will train, rehearse missions and conduct realistic exercises from anywhere in the world.

“Raytheon’s Cyber TRIDENT team is challenging the status quo for how software is developed and delivered to military training systems,” said Bob Williams, vice president of Global Training Solutions at Raytheon Intelligence & Space, a Raytheon Technologies company. “The speed of change in cyber warfare dictates rapid and continuous delivery of new training, which Raytheon will accomplish with techniques such as DevOps.”

The Cyber TRIDENT team combines Raytheon Intelligence and Space’s software development approaches, proven on other Department of Defense programs, with best practices and automation tools from the commercial sector. The team also will include small businesses and other innovative companies.

“Raytheon’s Cyber TRIDENT team will offer our proven end-to-end systems knowledge and cyber expertise with advanced tools, training and support,” said Williams. “The US Military’s Cyber Mission Force will be ready for anything.”

The U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation is leading the development and acquisition of PCTE on behalf of the entire Department of Defense.
