The construction contract for the £10.7million new HQ facility was awarded to Kier after DIO’s partnership with Mace. DIO will vacate their current site in Sutton Coldfield by Spring 2021.
The new headquarters will include an atrium which will provide an informal meeting space for employees. It will be constructed using a modular method with modules being constructed off site and transported to the building site for installation.
DIO Sutton Coldfield Head of Establishment Peter Lemon said: “DIO’s new headquarters at DMS Whittington will ensure that staff will be able to enjoy many of the facilities that a large, modern, operational military base offers. Co-locating on an operational defence site will also bring DIO staff closer to our customers and allow us to experience the Defence estate in use every day.”
“We are working closely with staff currently based at Sutton Coldfield to support them with the transition and with trade unions to undertake the necessary consultation.”
DIO’s new building will be based on the site at Defence Medical Services (DMS) Whittington in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Staff will be moved as part of DIO’s commitment to reducing the size of defence property.
The site will be disposed of which will save money overall while supporting the MOD’s contribution to meeting the Government’s housing targets. Demolition works have taken place at DMS Whittington to clear the site ready for construction.
Works are expected to start in Spring 2020. DIO announced a partnership alongside Mace last year to consult on their goals and create the design for the new headquarters facility.
