Mr Heappey replaces Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who has taken up the role of Minister for the Armed Forces.
Before entering politics, the new Minister served in the Army reaching the rank of Major. In a 10-year career in the Rifles, James served on operations in Kabul in 2005, Northern Ireland in 2006, Basra in 2007 and Sangin in Helmand Province in 2009. He also served in Kenya and across the United Kingdom.
His appointment as Minister for Defence Procurement comes after having previously served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister.

In a twitter post, Mr Heappey said he was “hugely honoured” to be taking up his new role and said he would ensure that troops would “have the world class kit they deserve.”
