Meggitt PLC  has signed a $16 million contract with Chemring Australia Pty for the supply of flare countermeasure assemblies on the F35 fighter jet.

This contract award further increases Meggitt content and scope on the multirole combat aircraft.

The flare countermeasure assembly is critical to survival in a combat situation and provides decoy heat signatures to enable the aircraft to return to base safely. The assembly uses Meggitt’s innovative and proprietary advanced composite material capable of withstanding extreme temperatures whilst also providing significant weight savings compared to conventional steel housings.

Dennis Hutton, Meggitt’s President of Engine Systems, said: “Designing a composite capable of withstanding such extreme temperatures was a challenge we were more than happy to accept. Through our close working partnership with Chemring, we are proud to provide this tailor-made material solution, developed to meet a demanding specification that supports safe operation for defence forces world-wide.”
