Organisations from across the European Defence Agency (EDA) have attended a cybersecurity workshop to adapt to automated cyber defence. The session provided examples of EDA methods and aimed to identify areas that could be improved on.
The meeting was attended by representatives from member states and cyber experts from the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO). The EDA’s Cyber Research and Technology Ad Hoc Working Group is working to create collaborative solutions and evaluate proposals presented at the workshop.
Outlines of future research projects are expected to be presented to member states at upcoming meetings. The EU listed ‘enabling capabilities for cyber responsive operations’ as one of its 11 Capability Development Priorities in 2018.
An ‘Interested Community of Experts’ will evaluate the proposals alongside the Cyber Research and technology Ad Hoc Working Group. The Overarching Strategic Research Agenda (OSRA) links cyber research and military priorities.
Significant progress has been made in EU cybersecurity efforts. The directive of security on Network and Information Systems (NIS) was signed into law by member states including the UK, which also signed the Network and Information Systems Regulations last year.
The directives encourage collaboration between member states on matters of cybersecurity. The Cyber Security act is due to be cemented in EU law this year, which will also allow companies to market their products across member states.
