Leonardo has announced a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ligurian local authorities to preserve, safeguard and secure the Italian region’s territorial ecosystem.

Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region, joined Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo in Genoa for the landmark agreement. Marco Bucci, the city’s mayor was also in attendance, as was Paolo Emilio Signorini, President of the Authority of the Port System of the Western Ligurian Sea.

“With today’s agreement we renew our commitment to Liguria and Genoa,” said Profumo. “Leonardo will offer its expertise to the local authorities and start the first public-private partnership, to enhance security in the Liguria region that has always been a focal for Leonardo’s activities.”

The three-year memorandum supports the United Nations 2030 Sustainability Agenda; specifically the community directives relating to integrated security and risk prevention. Leonardo will develop so-called territorial resilience projects, applying innovative solutions in support of security in the region. These solutions will also extend to the traceability of goods and cyber security as a whole.

To do so, Leonardo will collaborate with public and private bodies, both inside and outside the region, to establish Liguria as a centre of security innovation and excellence. A steering committee will now oversee implementation of the memorandum and determine the strategic direction of the programme going forward.
