General Dynamics Land Systems plans to upgrade 100 additional M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks to the state-of-the-art M1A2 System Enhancement Package Version 3 (SEPv3) configuration as part of a delivery order from the US Army.

The order itself forms part of an Army Requirements Contract agreed in December 2017 through which the US military can upgrade up to 435 M1A1 Abrams tanks to the M1A2 SEPv3 configuration. Crucially, the M1A2 SEPv3 configuration features technological advancements in communications, reliability, sustainment and fuel efficiency, alongside considerable armour enhancements.

This latest order will be fulfilled at General Dynamics Land Systems facilities in Scranton, Pennsylvania and Tallahassee, Florida, in addition to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio – currently the only operational tank plant in the United States. The first tranche of M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks were delivered to the US Army in October 2017.

General Dynamics Land Systems has provided innovative design, engineering, technology, production and full life-cycle support for land combat vehicles across the globe. The company’s experience and supply chain network has outfitted the manufacturer with proven capabilities to support both the US military and its overseas allies.
