The Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) has awarded a $22 million contract to Rockwell Collins which will see the specialist contractor provide much-needed support to the Robins Air Force Base maintenance depot.

This is the DLA’s first performance-based logistics (PBL) contract with the US Air Force. It will run for an initial three year period, during which Rockwell Collins will manage the supply chain for replacement parts across the AN/ARC-171, AN/ARC-190 and AN/ARR-85 airborne communication range.

Crucially, the PBL agreement will improve US Air Force readiness, ensuring greater visibility throughout the depot’s maintenance process while also reducing costly inventory and infrastructure expenditure.

“Keeping the warfighter’s mission needs as the top priority, we collaborated with the DLA and experts at Robins Air Force Base to develop a tailored parts management solution,” commented Alan Prowse, Vice President and Managing Director, Americas, for Rockwell Collins.

“Our teamwork will produce successful, measurable, repeatable results, while allowing the Air Force to truly authenticate the value PBLs have.”

For Rockwell Collins, PBL contracting is nothing new. The defence contractor has more than 20 years of performance-based logistics experience with a 100% programme renewal rate.

Past experience with both the US Coast Guard and US Navy’s F/A-18 programme has shown that paring down the spare and repair pipeline, introducing technology that improves overall reliability and integrating the logistics chain can result in significant performance improvement.
