A new report has revealed that NATO and the European Union are making good progress in their efforts to collaborate more effectively on defence and security issues.

The findings come from the first progress report on NATO-EU Cooperation, authored jointly by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU High Representative / Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.

Released this week, the report was presented by High Representative Mogherini to EU Foreign Ministers who are meeting in Luxembourg.

Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller will also be attending the EU meeting in order to discuss the cooperation between NATO and the EU.

The subject will also be discussed when Secretary General Stoltenberg shares the report with NATO Ministers of Defence when they meet in Brussels on 29 June.

NATO and the European Union committed to working more closely together with the Warsaw Declaration, signed by the NATO Secretary General, the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council in July 2016.

The two organisations are implementing over 40 proposals to deepen cooperation, ranging from resilience to hybrid threats, through greater coherence on capability development to helping build the defence capacities of partner countries.

Cooperation will continue, and the two organisations will explore ways to expand it in new areas by the end of the year.
