The new troops join over 200 personnel already stationed in the area in support of UNMISS.
The additional troops have been deployed to assist with engineering on the mission, including construction of a jetty on the River Nile, the development of helicopter landing sites, plus other infrastructure improvements.
Whilst on deployment, the main purpose of the Royal Engineers will be to construct a temporary field hospital in Bentiu, while a permanent hospital facility is developed. The new hospital will house 1,800 UN peacekeepers and UN staff, with medical personnel drawn from all three services staffing the hospital.
Over the coming months, the total number of deployed military personnel in the area will increase to some 400 staff, making it one of the largest operational deployments for the UK across the world.
