The Ministry of Defence’s Ten Year Equipment Plan sets out its forecast expenditure plans worth almost £178 billion to deliver and support the equipment required to meet the Armed Forces’ future objectives and obligations.

SME spend made up 19.4% of all MOD third-party spend in both 2013/14 and 2014/15. This figure equates to almost £4 billion spent both directly and indirectly with SMEs; of which direct spend was £822 million with over 5400 different suppliers.

The Supply Chain and Partnering Knowledge Transfer Zone at DPRTE 2017 is an unrivalled opportunity for all current and potential suppliers to the MOD to gain more insight into how they can share in this huge opportunity. The MOD wants to build upon its success to date and has set a new target of directing 25% of its third-party spend to small and medium-sized enterprises by 2020. Understanding how prime contractors engage with the supply chain is vital to ensure your business can benefit from the MOD’s ambition.

The MOD is looking to spend one pound in every four with SMEs”

The Supply Chain and Partnering Knowledge Transfer Zone gives you direct access to some of the leading figures within this area. Presentations and training sessions are running throughout the day, supporting the transparency of supply chain opportunities and programmes across the defence sector.

Among the high-profile speakers are Sean Balmer, Commercial Director at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, who will talk about DIO’s engagement strategy with industry and what this means for the supply chain. Also attending are the MOD’s Cyber Industry Team, who will be speaking about the work of the Defence Cyber Protection Partnership (DCPP) and what the implementation of the Cyber Security Model into all new MOD requirements and contracts means for defence suppliers. Cyber security is an area of critical importance that all suppliers to the MOD need to be well versed in, making this a must-attend session.

More speakers will be announced in the run-up to the event, which is shaping up to be the best-attended yet from across the MOD itself and the wider defence industry.
