Prime Minister Theresa May is due to meet with leaders of the Gulf States today, to help forge stronger relationships with them.

As the first British prime Minister and only the third western leader to be invited to attend the annual meeting of the Gulf Co-operation Council, the meeting opens a new chapter in UK-Gulf relations.

The Prime Minister will address leaders from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, looking to create a deeper partnership over security and economy, with the Gulf States being the UK’s third largest export market.

The two-day visit to Bahrain follows more than 40 bilateral meetings Mrs May has undertaken with international leaders in the past five months since she took office, with the Prime Minister seeking to consolidate the UK’s position as a major exporter and its international standing as we leave the EU.
