Following the Autumn Statement, further funding from LIBOR fines has been announced for a number of military charities.

Out of some £102M of funding directed towards the Armed Forces, £57.7M will be directed towards the military community, with causes such as the DNRC rehabilitation facility and the RAF centenary benefitting. Construction is well underway at the DNRC facility, which will offer world-class medical services for injured members of the Armed Forces. Defence Minister Mark Lancaster visited the DNRC site last week, where he observed construction progress at the bespoke facility.

Welcoming the announcement he said: “Last week I saw the remarkable progress on the DNRC building work first hand. Today’s £20M LIBOR grant will propel us further towards a truly world-class healthcare facility, and is a further commitment from this government to support our Armed Forces as well as wider society.”

The projects which will benefit from this latest round of funding include:

Iraq-Afghanistan Memorial

Marking the contribution of those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq over the past 25 years, the memorial has received a £500,000 grant to fund an unveiling ceremony.

The memorial, which will be installed in Victoria Embankment Gardens in London, is set to be unveiled in the spring.

RAF 100

To commemorate the centenary of The Royal Air Force in April 2018, some £2.4M has been allocated to the fund, which will help celebrate its history and cement its future.

Some of the funds will help veterans and families attend the commemorative events planned, whilst a large proportion will go on youth engagement programmes, encouraging children to choose STEM related-subjects at school and consider careers in aerospace.

Invictus Games

Next year’s Invictus Games will be held in Toronto, Canada, the LIBOR fines will see some £150,000 helping to fund a delegation from the UK.

The delegation to the games organised by a partnership of the MOD, and charitable partners Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion.

Service families

The Families Federations and other service family support services, will receive nearly half a million in funding. This will help support service families with a range of information from deployment to relationships, while also helping to raise the profile of the support available. Research will be commissioned by the funding into important issues that affect Forces Families.

Other funding will go towards specialist organisations working with the service welfare arm of the MOD, while the new DNRC building will receive £20M towards construction costs.
