Ricardo has been awarded a two-year contract by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) to provide impartial and independent technical advice and support on all aspects of both in-service and planned future marine diesel installations.

The contract will involve Ricardo providing expert technical support for marine diesel engines in the power range 5kW to 5MW, operating both as main propulsion systems and on-board generators.

This work involves the investigation of particular topics arising from operational experience, gaining an understanding of fundamental issues and developing solutions. All of this will be conducted in complete independence from commercial engine manufacturers and overhaul facilities.

In addition, Ricardo will also provide access to engine test beds and in-house capabilities, for example to conduct emissions testing.

John Stretton, Ricardo UK Head of Defence, said: “The selection of Ricardo for this contract underscores the depth of technical knowledge of our company in the area of medium speed marine diesel engines, as well as the independence, objectivity and complete impartiality that we bring to our engineering work. We look forward to working with DE&S over the coming two years to provide expert technical advice and assistance on the MOD’s current and planned future fleet of marine diesel power systems.”
