Over $124Bn of orders and options for aircraft, engines and supply chain solutions were confirmed at last month’s Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) in Hampshire, it has been revealed.

International co-operation was the order of the day, allaying fears that Britain’s recent referendum vote to exit the EU would see a downturn in business at the show. The event’s 1,500 exhibitors, of whom over 70% were from outside the UK, took up 550sq m more space than in 2014.

Ninety-eight military delegations attended FIA 2016 from 66 countries, with 29 commercial and civil delegations attending from 22 countries. At a supply chain level, the show’s Meet the Buyer programme saw 1,680 meetings take place between 40 buyers from 13 countries and 177 suppliers over the course of the three-day event, designed to allow companies of all sizes to form new business relationships with international firms.

Commenting on the figures, FIA Chief Executive Shaun Ormrod said: “The orders announced together with the large number of aircraft coming to Farnborough for the first time is a promising indicator that the industry is in great shape and that Farnborough maintains its crown as the most international airshow on the circuit.”
