CGI has been awarded a two-year contract by the Ministry of Defence to provide ongoing support and post design services for the CODES Communications Security (COMSEC) asset management system.

CODES helps support the MOD’s sovereign security infrastructure which underpins the secure communication systems used by the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy across the globe. It is a distributed application that gives the MOD full lifecycle control over COMSEC equipment, publications and encryption keys to help protect sensitive information from evolving global cyber security threats. CODES automates central asset accounting and movements to the central MOD management functions as well as to the deployed end-user crypto custodians.

CGI will provide software application support for CODES and hardware support for the IT infrastructure, building on the company’s extensive experience in developing high-integrity secure systems. The applications, which were developed by CGI, automate many operational functions to improve tempo, accounting accuracy and control for both physical and electronic COMSEC assets and are a critical component of a long-term programme to sustain and modernise the MOD’s crypto capability.

Steve Smart, CGI’s Senior Vice President for Space, Defence, National and Cyber Security in the UK, said: “Our ongoing relationship will enable the MOD to sustain its crypto distribution capability, supported by CGI’s deep technical expertise and domain knowledge. It can be enhanced to support the MOD’s developing crypto capability and will strengthen our secure application development, support and hosting expertise and offerings.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the MOD and delivering first-class support.”
