DVD2016, jointly sponsored by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) and Army Headquarters, will focus on three distinct themes – Strike, Reducing Logistic Need and Ready Forces – to explore the Army’s return to a Contingent Operational footing and the emerging Land Strike capability concept.

The Army’s Strike concept is designed for a future operating environment that demands agility and the power to be able to strike. The introduction of two new Strike Brigades will complement existing force structures and will provide policy makers with viable, graduated and relevant choices for the application of force.

Strike will deliver an agile, medium-weight force capable of Combined- Arms and Joint manoeuvre for operational effect. It will be powerful in all tactical activities: offensive, defensive, enabling and stabilising. The force will punch above its weight, exploiting tactics not previously possible at such scale and reach.

Reduced logistic demand and distributed command enablers will allow the force to project at operational ranges, beyond secured lines of communication. Cognitive agility, physical speed and the ability to disperse then rapidly converge will generate the phenomenon of ‘elasticity’. This will enable the force to deliver impact over wide areas while maintaining the initiative and the ability to act with decisive precision when required. The Strike capability will be delivered through an innovative ‘Whole Force Approach’ to harness and maximise the talent of our people.

The creation of two Strike Brigades is fundamental to the Army’s modernisation agenda and Joint Force 2025. Strike will be centred around the power and reach of the new AJAX vehicle and a new Mechanised Infantry Vehicle. It will be supported by a Multi Role Vehicle (Protected) and Joint Fires, and enabled by Land Environment Tactical Communication Systems (LE TacCIS).

Major General Bob Bruce, Army Director Capability based at Army Headquarters, said: “DVD2016 offers an excellent opportunity to continue to enhance relationships between the Army and our partners in industry. We are working to develop future capabilities for the Army in a notably dynamic strategic environment. Potential threats and opportunities are increasingly multi-faceted and diverse, and technology is evolving at an unprecedented rate. We must stay ahead of these changes and evolutions, and
that will require us to work closely with partners in industry and beyond. It will also require us to deepen our Whole Force Approach as we look to the future. Our Strike capability exemplifies that approach. The benefits we realise from the development of Strike will be felt broadly across the Army.”
